The two districts
| District | Which part of Westlake Village | Elementary schools with Westlake Village addresses | Check an address |
|---|---|---|---|
| Las Virgenes Unified (LVUSD) | The Los Angeles County portion, the City of Westlake Village | White Oak Elementary, 31761 Village School Rd. | Find Your School |
| Conejo Valley Unified (CVUSD) | Addresses on the Ventura County side | Westlake Elementary, 1571 E. Potrero Road, and Westlake Hills Elementary, 3333 S. Medicine Bow Court, both TK–5 | Find My Assigned School |
The City of Westlake Village is in Los Angeles County (county list of cities), and LVUSD says it serves students from Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills "and the Los Angeles County portion of Westlake Village" (Get to Know LVUSD). Across the county line, CVUSD's school directory lists Westlake Elementary, Westlake Hills Elementary and Westlake High School with Westlake Village addresses. So the mailing address alone doesn't settle the district.
How to check your address
- Enter your street address in LVUSD's Find Your School locator. If the home is inside LVUSD, it shows the assigned schools.
- If it isn't, enter the address in CVUSD's Find My Assigned School map.
- Call the district's enrollment office if neither tool gives a clear answer, especially for a home near the county line.
Middle and high school
No public middle school has a Westlake Village address. CVUSD's middle schools have Thousand Oaks addresses, and LVUSD's middle schools are in Agoura Hills and Calabasas. On the CVUSD side, the district's street indexes list Colina Middle School for the Westlake and Westlake Hills attendance areas (Colina street index, updated 2018). On the LVUSD side, use the district's school locator above. Each district places 6th graders in math differently: CVUSD with three courses and a June Challenge Exam, and Las Virgenes Unified with a 5th-grade placement test.
Choosing a different school
- Inside CVUSD: School of Choice applications for 2027–28 run from November 2, 2026 to February 1, 2027 (how CVUSD School of Choice works).
- Inside LVUSD: School of Choice permits for 2027–28 opened October 1, 2026 and close March 1, 2027, with an early-decision deadline of December 18, 2026. Many schools are at capacity, and families provide transportation (LVUSD Permits, published October 8, 2026).
- Moving between districts: LVUSD's incoming interdistrict permits use the same October 1 to March 1 window, and after LVUSD approves, the family's home district must send a release within 30 days. A denied request can be appealed to LVUSD within 5 calendar days, then to the Los Angeles County Office of Education within 30 calendar days. Families outside CVUSD use CVUSD's Inter-District Transfer process.
The calendars differ
Both districts started the 2026–27 school year on August 19, 2026, but the rest of the year doesn't line up:
| CVUSD | LVUSD | |
|---|---|---|
| Elementary conferences | October 12–16, 2026 | November 16–20, 2026 at White Oak, minimum days (White Oak calendar) |
| Weekly early release | Set by each school | Every Wednesday at the elementary schools (White Oak handbook) |
| Spring break | March 29 – April 2, 2027, after a March 26 local holiday | March 22–26, 2027, plus a March 29 local holiday |
| Last day | June 10, 2027 (elementary) | June 9, 2027 |
