Agoura Hills schools
Agoura Hills is in Los Angeles County, and its public schools belong to Las Virgenes Unified, which serves about 10,000 students in 15 schools across Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and the Los Angeles County side of Westlake Village (LVUSD). Five of them, all with Agoura Hills addresses, serve children from kindergarten through 8th grade (district schools):
| School | Grades | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Sumac Elementary | TK–5 | A 50/50 English–Spanish dual language immersion program; TK is taught in both languages (LVUSD) |
| Willow Elementary | TK–5 | Specialist teachers for visual and performing arts, P.E., STEAM and garden, plus a science teacher for 4th and 5th grade (Willow) |
| Yerba Buena Elementary | TK–5 | An Innovation Station STEAM space in the media center, with Ozobots, VR sets and stop-motion supplies (Yerba Buena) |
| Mariposa School | TK–8 | Listed by the district as Waldorf-inspired; teachers "loop" with their classes across several grades (Mariposa) |

6th-grade math and GATE in Las Virgenes
Agoura Hills 5th graders take LVUSD's math placement test in their own school's 5th-grade math class, and the result, together with teacher referrals, sets the 6th-grade level: Math 6, Math 6 High or Math 6 Accelerated (LVUSD honors). No score cutoffs are published. Students arriving from outside the district take the test at Lindero Canyon instead; for fall 2026 the sessions were the week of June 15 and on August 11 (Lindero Canyon dates). The Las Virgenes math placement guide goes through the levels. Thousand Acorns Tutoring does not offer placement exam prep.
Gifted education works differently here than in Conejo Valley Unified. LVUSD's GATE program is a 6th–8th grade cohort at A.E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas, grouped together for English, social science and science (A.E. Wright GATE). For 2027–28, current LVUSD 5th graders whose parents submit the GATE Testing Request Form are assessed at their own schools in the first semester, and letters go out in January (request form). A student whose school feeds Lindero Canyon also needs a School of Choice permit to attend GATE at A.E. Wright (GATE admission).
