About White Oak

White Oak Elementary, home of Roary the Lion, teaches about 362 students from TK through 5th grade on Village School Road (Ed-Data). It's the only school on Las Virgenes Unified's list with a Westlake Village address, serving the Los Angeles County side of the city (LVUSD). It isn't the same school as the White Oak Elementary in Simi Valley, which belongs to Simi Valley Unified (SVUSD schools).

The school's history page says developer Daniel K. Ludwig planned the neighborhood with an elementary school at its center. The campus shares open space with the central park of Westlake Village's First Neighborhood, and many students walk to school on greenbelt paths (White Oak history).

White Oak uses Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports with R.O.A.R. expectations and the No Place for Hate program, and offers counseling and a Student Study Team. LVUSD+ provides on-campus childcare. In 2026–27, every grade starts at 8:05 am, with breakfast from 7:30, and Wednesdays end early (handbook).

Math placement for White Oak students

Las Virgenes sets each student's 6th-grade math level (Math 6, Math 6 High or Math 6 Accelerated) with a placement test at the end of 5th grade and teacher referrals, and publishes no score cutoffs (LVUSD). District 5th graders take the test in their own 5th-grade math class (Lindero Canyon dates), and the Las Virgenes placement guide explains the levels. Thousand Acorns Tutoring does not offer placement exam prep.
