Moorpark schools

Moorpark Unified "is located within the city of Moorpark" and runs ten schools: five TK–5 elementary schools, one TK–8 school, two middle schools, a comprehensive high school and a middle college high school on the Moorpark College campus (MUSD). These are the eight that teach kindergarten through 8th grade:

School Grades Address
Arroyo West Active Learning Academy TK–5 4117 Country Hill Rd.
Flory Academy of Sciences and Technology TK–5 240 Flory Ave.
Mountain Meadows 21st Century Learning Academy TK–5 4200 Mountain Meadow Dr.
Peach Hill Academy TK–5 13400 Christian Barrett Dr.
Walnut Canyon Arts & Technology Magnet School TK–5 280 Casey Rd.
Campus Canyon College Preparatory Academy TK–8 15300 Monroe Ave.
Chaparral Middle School 6–8 280 Poindexter Ave.
Mesa Verde Middle School 6–8 14000 Peach Hill Rd.

Two of the elementary schools are magnets. Flory calls itself "a magnet school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)" and also lists a Dual Language Immersion Program (Flory), while Walnut Canyon "integrates the arts and technology with diverse and creative learning experiences" (Walnut Canyon). Peach Hill describes itself as "A Core Knowledge School of Distinction," and Campus Canyon uses "21st Century Skills and the Schoolwide Enrichment Model." To see which school serves your street, enter your address in MUSD's School Locator. Pages for individual Moorpark schools will come later; for now, this page covers the district as a whole.

Honors placement and GATE in Moorpark

Moorpark's middle schools offer honors math and language arts in 6th and 7th grade and honors science in 8th grade. Placement into 6th-grade honors math combines three things: the average of the three trimester math grades in 5th grade, an algebra readiness test that is part of the 5th-grade assessments given in May and June, and the SBAC math scale score (Chaparral honors program). MUSD doesn't publish cutoff scores. For 7th and 8th grade, students are re-evaluated with trimester math grades, an end-of-year Algebra Readiness Test and the SBAC score, and at Mesa Verde, "Students in 6th grade honors courses receiving B's or higher each trimester will continue in honors" (Mesa Verde). The SBAC score comes from the state CAASPP test; the score report guide shows where to find it. Thousand Acorns Tutoring does not offer placement exam prep.

For gifted education, every MUSD 3rd grader has taken a universal GATE screening since 2023–24, and a parent or teacher can refer a 4th or 5th grader for testing. MUSD's GATE page doesn't name the test or a qualifying score; it says high-achieving elementary students are grouped together in class for enrichment (MUSD GATE).

Key Moorpark school dates, 2026–27

MUSD's 2026–27 calendar counts 180 student days, from Wednesday, August 19, 2026 to Friday, June 11, 2027 (MUSD calendar). Days without school for students include:

  • Monday, September 21, 2026: a recess day.
  • Monday, October 26, 2026: teacher inservice.
  • November 23–27, 2026: the whole week of Thanksgiving.
  • December 21, 2026 – January 4, 2027: winter recess.
  • March 22–29, 2027: spring recess.

The calendar doesn't list conference weeks or minimum days, so check your school's site for those. Families who want a middle school outside their attendance area apply through MUSD's parental choice process; for 2026–27 the window ran January 20 to March 13, 2026, and 2027–28 dates aren't posted yet (MUSD choice letter).

The Moorpark City Library

Moorpark's city library is still on Moorpark Avenue, in a 7,900-square-foot building from 1980. A new library at 83 High Street, across from the post office, is expected to open in 2027 with study rooms, meeting rooms, co-working areas and separate spaces for young children, youth, teens and adults, and the old building is to be demolished (Moorpark Acorn).
