About Sumac
Sumac Elementary teaches about 362 students from TK through 5th grade on North Calmfield Avenue in Agoura Hills (Ed-Data). Its 2026–27 handbook calls it Sumac L-STEM Elementary, its mascot is the Valiant Voyagers, an astronaut, and the state's school directory lists the same street address for Sumac and for Mariposa School of Global Education (handbook, CDE).
LVUSD describes Sumac's program as 50/50 English–Spanish dual language immersion, and TK at Sumac is taught in both languages (LVUSD). The immersion program began in 2011–12 and runs through 5th grade, aiming for students to read and write well in both languages (Sumac). The school's STEM program builds engineering and design into the curriculum, students in grades 3–5 have school laptops through a 1:1 program, and a Science & STEM Fair is on the calendar for March 4, 2027 (handbook, Sumac calendar).
After school, LVUSD Plus+ provides childcare and Enrich offers paid classes, and the Extra Minutes Club supervises K–3 students who have siblings in later-dismissing grades (handbook). In 2026–27, the first bell rings at 8:10 am, and every Wednesday is a minimum day for staff collaboration (handbook).

Math placement for Sumac students
Las Virgenes sets each student's 6th-grade math level (Math 6, Math 6 High or Math 6 Accelerated) with a placement test at the end of 5th grade and teacher referrals, and publishes no score cutoffs (LVUSD). District 5th graders take the test in their own 5th-grade math class (Lindero Canyon dates), and the Las Virgenes placement guide explains the levels. Thousand Acorns Tutoring does not offer placement exam prep.

Subjects that fit Sumac students
Sumac's immersion students learn in both English and Spanish from TK on. Tutoring sessions are in English, which suits English reading and phonics and writing directly. For elementary math, ask your child's teacher which language math is taught in at their grade, so sessions can use the same terms. Sumac's STEM program, with engineering and design built in, also leans on measurement and data, which are part of the K–5 math standards.
