Math placement for Sycamore Canyon students
After 6th-grade placement, a CVUSD student moves up a level only with 70% or better on a Boost Exam: Math 6CP to Math 7 Honors (6CP to 7H letter), or Math 7CP to Algebra 1 CP in 8th grade (7CP to Algebra 1 letter). In 2026 both exams were offered June 15 and July 31 at Colina, with free Boost Camps July 6–31; the 2027 dates aren't posted yet (Middle School Education). The guides to CVUSD placement and Boost Exams explain the courses. Thousand Acorns Tutoring does not offer placement exam prep.
Students in Sycamore Canyon's elementary grades are assigned to its own middle school in CVUSD's street index, so 6th-grade math placement happens without a change of school (street index).

Subjects that fit Sycamore Canyon students
Because one campus runs from TK to 8th grade, a family can have a kindergartner and a middle schooler at the same school, and both can work with the same teacher: reading and phonics and elementary math for the younger grades, middle school math for the older ones. The middle grades' Math Counts and debate programs point the same way, toward stronger math reasoning and writing that makes an argument.
