About EARThS
EARThS Magnet School, the Environmental Academy of Research Technology and Earth Sciences, teaches about 519 students from kindergarten through 5th grade on Michael Drive in Newbury Park (Ed-Data). The state's school directory gives its opening date as August 27, 2009 and lists it as an Alternative School of Choice and a magnet school (CDE).
Environmental science and technology run through every subject. Students take part in National Park Service programs by grade band, SEEDS for kindergarten and 1st grade, SPROUTS for 2nd and 3rd, and SHRUBS for 4th and 5th, and learn science by inquiry in the Exploration Center, the bio labs and a Life Science Lab (EARThS). The school also lists Art Makes U Smart, ECO-GECKOS, chorus, enrichment classes and GATE, and its homepage lists it as a 2023 California Distinguished School.
As a magnet school, EARThS draws students from beyond its neighborhood, so the middle school a student moves on to depends on where the family lives. The district's list of EARThS proximate and in-boundary addresses assigns those homes to Sequoia Middle School and Newbury Park High (EARThS addresses).

Subjects that fit EARThS students
At EARThS, science shows up in every subject: field programs with the National Park Service, observations in the bio labs, and projects in the Exploration Center. Explaining what you saw is a reading and writing task as much as a science one, so writing and reading sessions fit naturally, and elementary math covers the data, measurement and fractions of the K–5 standards.
