About Ladera

Ladera STARS Academy teaches about 319 students from TK through 5th grade on Calle Almendro in Thousand Oaks (Ed-Data). STARS stands for Science, Technology, Arts and Rigorous Scholarship. The school describes itself as a nationally certified STEM campus, and the state's school directory lists it as a magnet school (Ladera, CDE). Uniforms are required for all students.

Each week, students go through Creation Rotations in visual and performing arts, technology and digital design. The school also lists GATE, music, library, P.E. and Target Time among its programs, and in its STEAM curriculum students use "voice and choice" to plan, design and create projects that show what they understand (Ladera).

Target Time is Ladera's Multi-Tiered System of Support for language arts: students at both the advanced and at-risk ends of each grade work in leveled groups for an hour a day, four days a week, in two 30-minute blocks. Teachers regroup them after each eight-to-ten-week assessment period, and no one is pulled out of core instruction (Target Time). The school's behavior framework, the Dragon Code, asks students to choose character, own their learning, demonstrate respect and envision success (Dragon Code).

In 2026–27, grades 1–5 start at 8:15 am and end at 2:40 pm, except on Tuesdays, when they leave at 1:30 pm; TK and kindergarten end at 1:30 pm. Conference week, October 12–16, and the last day, June 10, are minimum days with 12:30 pm dismissal (bell schedule). Ladera addresses feed Los Cerritos Middle School in CVUSD's street index.
